Why We Scream Itt
Cancer doesn’t ask. It doesn’t wait. It crashes in and changes everything. Cancer doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed it ripples through families, friendships, and entire communities. Whether you’ve faced it personally, watched someone you love fight it, or lost someone too soon, cancer has touched all of us in some way often without warning, and always without mercy.
For us, it became our reality, our lives the day when our 34-year-old brother, newly married, full of life, and thriving was diagnosed with cancerous brain stem glioma. Just three months earlier, he had married the love of his life and stepped into the role of a loving stepdad. He was healthy, happy, and living fully. Then, in an instant, everything shifted.
His tumor mutated into his spinal cord and became inoperable. The impact has been devastating myoclonus affecting the muscles in his brain, causing symptoms that mimic Parkinson’s, dementia, epilepsy, anger, and seizures. He experiences intense fatigue, confusion, and the terrifying possibility of losing his memory at any moment. He’s already lost feeling in one side of his face, struggles with paralysis of the vocal cords, and now faces weakness and limited movement in his leg.
He had to step away from work. His routine, his freedom, his sense of normalcy all gone. What was once a life full of joy and momentum became a series of hospital visits, treatments, and heavy conversations no one should ever have to face. Watching someone you love go through that… it leaves you feeling helpless, heartbroken, and furious.
Suddenly, life as we knew it was flipped upside down. The appointments, the fear, the unknown, it was overwhelming. We felt powerless, angry, and desperate to do something. In the quiet moments, in the chaos, there was this deep need to just scream.
In that chaos, there was one thing we all kept thinking: Fuck cancer.
We wanted to scream it.
So we did.
That raw, honest feeling, that scream is where Scream Itt was born.
